Could I go to jail and/or be fined for naming my daughter "Rory Emerald?" His name is copyrighted.?

well i don't see why you would go to jail. but here is a question, and its okay if you do. do you want to name your child that because you like the name?

OR

do you just want to name him that because you like the guy who' s name is copyrighted?

i probably wouldn't name him that unless you figure out a way to be SURE that you can't get in trouble, but again, i don't think that you could.

You could name your kid Walt Disney Corporation and there's nothing they could do about it.

Matthew McConaughey's brother named his son Miller Lyte.

I think it would only be copyright infringement if you used it for a company or something other business related, i.e. if you make money off of it, it's probably illegal.
Reply:No, that could not happen, because while the great Rory Emerald has had his name copyrighted, giving that name to ones daughter is not a "commercial use" of that name, and is therefore permissible.
Reply:Yes cause it is a horrible name.

:) just kidding. I have no idea about the copywrite thing. the name is not that bad. rory on a girl is kinda silly. Try looking for longer version that does not sound so kidish.
Reply:That sounds like it should be a boys name anyway . If it is a man who has copyrighted the name , why would you want to use it for a little girl ? Some people would stick anything on their poor kid .
Reply:You could always name her Laurie Emerald or Emerald Rory to avoid any problems.
Reply:What does copyright infringement have to do with naming a kid?
Reply:Name her Aurora Emerald and call her Rory (or Rora) for short.
Reply:If the name is copyrighted then yes you could get in trouble if he somehow finds out.
Reply:I like Emerald for a girl, but Rory is soooo ugly! Rory sounds like someone drunk trying to say Roy.
Reply:Absolutely, DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!
Reply:Just change the spelling ;)
Reply:No.
