When people make name names for things, why did people call a orange an orange when a carrot is more orange?

It all started with the game snooker - the red ball being referred to as the red , the pink - the pink , the green - the green , the yellow - the yellow etc. One day someone left a fruit with no name on the table , upon seeing it , Alex 'Hurricane ' Higgins exclaimed - ah ha - an Orange ! and proceeded it to pot it . Later that day someone left a carrot on the table and Simon 'The soupspoon' Jenkins was heard to say - can someone take that carrot off the table please .His request was turned down and he was forced to play one of his signature jump shots , going in off the blue . Higgins won the game but his prize money was short llived as he had to spend it on dentistry after trying to eat one of the balls .

Because people ate the orange before the carrot, there was no digging invovlved. You could just pick it up off the ground.
Reply:Maybe the orange was first .

Reply:Check out the history of the carrot at http://www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/history.ht... It is a really interesting site stating that carrots were once purple and white, and through evolution changed color and size. The term "carrot" seems to come from its genus and classification.
Reply:Because the carrot was already named the carrot. So they decided to name the orange, the orange.
Reply:b'coz i have seen red carrots also and orange also but i've never saw a red orange...or any other color of orange .... orange carrots are not good as red....find and try 1...
