When Sesame Street tried giving Big Bird a regular name, what name did they try?

Most other characters have a regular name: Oscar the Grouch, Elmo, Grover, etc. Some years ago, in one episode, they tried giving Big Bird a regular name. The kids hated it, and they dropped it. Can you remember or find it digging around online?

When Sesame Street tried giving Big Bird a regular name, what name did they try?
As far as I can determine, Big Bird has never been called anything except Big Bird in the US, except when Snuffy called him "Bird". Cookie Monster also has no other name, except when his name is shortened to "Cookie" by various other characters.

In other countries, they call Big Bird by various other names (which, generally, in their languages mean "Big Bird"):

Big Bird is seen in other countries and has in each language a different name:

Brazil: Garibaldo

Mexico: Abelardo

China: Da Niao

Spain: at first Caponata / but now Paco Pico

Portugal: Poupas

France: Toccata

German: Bibo

The Netherlands: neef Jan

The birds from several international co-productions have been designated as cousins of Big Bird:

Abelardo -- Plaza S茅samo, Mexico

Da Niao -- Zhima Jie, China

Minik Kus赂 -- Susam Sokag藰谋, Turkey

Pino -- Sesamstraat, the Netherlands

Poupas -- Rua S茅samo, Portugal
Reply:Yes, the name they tried giving big bird was "Fred the big yellow rat with wings". I should know because i myself am a Sesame Street fan.
Reply:Stanley.
