I am naming my son Peyton. Can you help me pick a middle name ?His last name is Arnold.?

I would use a name that flows with the other two names, like Jacob, Christopher. Use a name of one of your relatives.

Reply:Just for fun... the Peyton family (surname) was a prominent English family, and Robert Peyton was a settler in Gloucester county, Virginia in the 1600's. In one of the families I work, the name was given to someone as a first name, and it has been passed down in that family to this day. I have seen it used for both males and females.

And being a genealogist, I love what they used to do.. using mom's maiden name as a middle name. Makes it more personal. Or, maybe honoring mom's father, by using his name.
Reply:I read through the list of people before me and I have heard that an unusual name can be helpful to a girl, but a hindrance to a guy. So, in case he doesn't like Peyton (and have you thought about the nicknames--would you like him called"Pay",for instance, or would that bother you, because people invariably shorten names, whether you like it or no) so in case he doesn't like Peyton, I think it would be good to give him a strong name in the middle.

I agree with those who say the name should flow. Because of that I think a three syllable name would be good like Anthony, because the first and last syllables are vowel sounds which keeps the three name combo flowing.

Peyton Alexander Arnold might be nice. (Alex is a good nickname) and the r flows to the a. That's four syllables, though.

Also think about how the initials look. PAA. Do you like that or not.

I also liked the idea about using the mother's maiden name if it works with the flow.

Anyway, good luck with it all. We're probably overwhelming you with all this.

Reply:I always think something familial would be good (i.e. your father's middle name). What about Alexander or Matthew?

Reply:You should pick a middle name that can't be made fun of because you have to think of his life in school. I know from personal experience that if you have a weird name it causes problems with bullying. A common name would be good but, to be different is cool also, but to different is bad too.

Reply:Payton Maurice Arnold

Its kind of hard to find a harmonious name between Peyton and Arnold. Maurice gives it class and sounds good I think.
