What was the original name of the city/area known as Jerusalem, Israel prior to the Jews naming it Jerusalem ?

Hint: the language of the time being Aramaic, the cities name would most likely be in the parameters of that dialect.

Reply:Well, it certainly wasn't El Quds.

Jerusalem is the most sacred city in the world to Jews.

Muslims have Mecca and Medina before they get to Jerusalem.
Reply:So what on can infer from the entry above would be that the name has been fairly constant throughout the history of time and in nearly every language having contact with the city... lol. I do thank the person above me for putting all that in... very interesting.
Reply:Actually the Aramaic language came about much later. The city that stood where Jerusalem is, was called Salem (which means "Peace" in most semitic languages). When the Jews conquered the city and made it their own, they renamed the city Jerusalem (Which means "Peace of God").
